Oxbridge Parent Organization (OPO)

Today’s Oxbridge parents have the unique opportunity to create an engaged and supportive parent community. For several years, our pioneering parents who brought children to a brand-new school have worked hard to create a community of engaged parents. The OPO has a full calendar of activities including parent workshops with guest speakers, open meetings, and social events. Additionally, members of the OPO can often be found volunteering at Oxbridge events and supporting student programs.

Mission Statement

The Oxbridge Parent Organization exists to promote a dynamic partnership between parents and the school, fostering communication, school spirit, and family participation within the Oxbridge Community.

OPO Board Members & Officers

The individuals listed below have agreed to serve as an OPO board member or officer for the 2016-17 school year.

Jeanie Waina, President

My son, Shane, is a Junior at Oxbridge. I've served on the Oxbridge Parent Organization Executive Board since 2014 and I'm pleased to accept the role of OPO President for the 2016-17 school year. For the past two years I've been an active participant of the OPO's Executive Gala Committee and have served in many other volunteer capacities throughout the school. My professional background is sales management, marketing, and consulting with a specialty in start-up organizations that bring innovative challenges requiring a 'can do' attitude and a lot of flexibility in job function. ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

I have been very active in charity with non-profit lacrosse leagues since 2002. My passion for inclusion and diversity led me to participate in starting an underprivileged city lacrosse club in Stuart, FL. Considering the diverse population of families here at Oxbridge, I embrace the opportunity to continue to strive for a complete sense of community for all of our families and to be an ambassador for that mission throughout all our events and activities through our years at Oxbridge.

Lisa Johnson, President Elect

My son Andrew recently completed his sophomore year at Oxbridge, where, in addition to his educational pursuits, he was a member of the JV and Varsity Baseball teams and involved in several clubs. I served as a member of the planning committee for our inaugural gala, Oxbridge 360, working on the guest relations subcommittee. ‪

Originally from upstate New York, I have spent most of my life in Florida. I graduated from UCF and earned an MBA from UNC Charlotte before returning to Charlotte in 1996. I have been with Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida since 1996 and currently serve as Chief Strategy Officer. I also own Johnson Marketing Communications, a small consulting business that works with non-profit, professional and trade associations. I am active in several community organizations and currently serve on the Board of Directors for Leadership Palm Beach County and the Business Advisory Board for Keiser University. I live in Wellington with my husband Wayne and sons Andrew and Adam.

Merilynn Rubsamen, Vice President

Our son, Joseph, is completed his freshman year at Oxbridge and we had a wonderful year.

We chose Oxbridge Academy for our youngest son because of the high quality education offered, the innovation of project based learning, the dedication of the teachers, and diversity of students. My hope is to continue to build a strong foundation for our children through the interaction of the familys, school and community.

My background in Social Work and Psychology have allowed me to gain experience in working with children and families in many aspects of life. I have been married over 33 years and have 3 boys. I have volunteered extensively in the communities where I have lived. Over the past 17 years I have volunteered in many leadership positions at my sons school, Unity School of Delray Beach, serving as Head Room Parent for 2 years, President of the USSO for 2 years (OPO equivalent), member of the school board for over 5 years, ambassador of the Builders Club, and as co-chairman of the 50th anniversary gala auction. Most recently I have helped Joseph launch and continue his non-profit charity.

It would be an honor to serve on the Oxbridge Parent Organization. I would like to continue to foster a strong parental involvement in the school assuring our school’s mission of building a strong foundation for our children’s future success.

Terry Dewis, Vice President

My name is Terry Dewis, and my son Alex will be entering his Junior year this fall.

Originally from the UK, we now spend our summers in the Finger Lakes, New York, where we own a Bistro, small Vineyard and Gallery. During the school year we are here in Palm Beach where we own an Antique and Design Gallery.

I have always been actively involved at all of our son's schools throughout the years, serving in many different capacities from numerous committees to school boards. I was one of the founding board member of Alex's pre school, St John's Montessori Academy in Miami Beach, and served there for many years.

The diversity of the student body, the academic standards, coupled with the multifaceted teaching styles is what attracted us to Oxbridge. The sense of community is what keeps my son happy and has also drawn me into wanting to help. We are thrilled to be a part of the Oxbridge family.

Susie Casas, Vice President

My daughter, Cristina, will be a junior this year. I served on the Oxbridge Parents Organization (OPO) board during 2014/2015 as Chair of the Spirit Committee and was primarily responsible for staff appreciation week. I attended Florida State University and earned my Bachelor of Science in Accounting in August 1990. I began my CPA career with Price Waterhouse and now work as the Audit Manager of a small Wellington CPA firm. I welcome the opportunity to serve on the OPO board to help it continue to develop and become a valuable resource for all Oxbridge families, both new and established.

Dr. Susan Gray, Past President

Hi everyone, my daughter, Gabbi will be a senior next year and will represent her class as Vice President. We both believe that passion and commitment can be powerful motivators for driving action and building strong communities. As a Professor of Organizational Leadership and Consultant to Fortune 500 organizations globally, I see firsthand how important it is to have a well-rounded education and to be able to connect and collaborate with others in a team environment. As the President of the OPO Board last year, and serving as past President this year, I am excited to work in partnership with our Board and all of you, to create a meaningful and active parent community that offers all of us a welcoming peer network to support our children, Oxbridge, and each other during our high school adventures!
