College Counseling

The College Counseling Department is part of the academic advising, student services, and college counseling office (ASC).  The goal of the ASC is to ensure that all Oxbridge Academy students and their parents have access to pertinent, practical, and well-timed information that will allow Oxbridge Academy students to move on to post-Oxbridge Academy destinations that match with our students’ talents, interests, and goals.

Members of the ASC team work collaboratively to guide, support, and challenge Oxbridge Academy students to reach their potential. As counselors and educators, ASC team members endeavor to impart to Oxbridge Academy students the skills and tools necessary to know themselves and discover their purpose in life at Oxbridge Academy and beyond.

With care and attention, ASC team members work with students, parents, teachers, coaches, and others to help each individual Oxbridge student build a balanced high school experience that includes developing a rigorous academic course plan, a strategy for deep extracurricular engagement, and a thoughtful approach to post-secondary goals.

The ASC team helps each Oxbridge Academy student design and shape their learning in high school, which includes close attention to academic schedules and aspirations, extracurricular activities, including athletics and community service, and summer experiences.

By the time they reach the formal college counseling process as juniors, each Oxbridge Academy student has been guided and advised to build a balanced and challenging high school experience that builds a solid foundation for post-secondary goals. Working with their own assigned ASC team member, Oxbridge Academy upperclassmen explore their own strengths and interests, and the self-knowledge and understanding developed along the way help our students discover the right fit for their futures.

Our team provides sound advice, asks critical questions, provides recommendations, and helps students identify all of the opportunities available to them. Students receive help through all parts of the college admissions process from evaluating various colleges to preparing applications to making the right selection. We also help counsel parents on what to expect throughout the process and provide valuable resources for financial aid and scholarships.

The College Counseling team recognizes that choosing the right college is a personal and sometimes complex decision. That’s why we believe so strongly in helping each student find the post-secondary path that best matches his or her unique needs and wants.

Ultimately, the ASC process is student-centered and driven, with a focus on fit in order to ensure each student’s maximum success.
