Oxbridge Academy encourages athletic participation and has a “no cut” policy at the junior varsity level. Junior varsity teams are more flexible and developmental, and will offer playing time for all athletes who abide by team rules and expectations regardless of ability.
Oxbridge recognizes there is a different level of responsibility and commitment at the varsity level. The coach will make a determination of varsity status. With the understanding that academics come first, varsity athletes are expected to be at all practices unless excused by the coach. Irresolvable conflicts necessitating missing practice time will not preclude athletes from making the varsity squad and should be communicated in advance to the coach. We understand that there may be family and Oxbridge curricular and co-curricular obligations that may take precedence and we will be flexible with those situations. However, student athletes should be aware that playing time at the varsity level will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, skill level, commitment, fairness to other athletes, work ethic, sportsmanship, academic success, etc. Coaches may have to cut players from their teams at the varsity level. If a coach has to cut, he or she shall first discuss the issue with the Athletic Director and/or Head of School. Players shall be notified as soon as possible whether or not there will be cuts. The coach shall tell each individual player in a private conference if they have been cut from the team. Coaches shall not post a list of cuts or players that have made the team.
