Congratulations to girls’ volleyball player, Ava Shmueli on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Katie George said, “Ava has helped lead the ThunderWolves to a 5-0 start to the season! She is leading the team in assists and earned a school record 35 digs against The Benjamin School in the 3-2 win. Her will-to-win is contagious and is giving her team a strong competitive advantage. Way to go Ava!”
Congratulations to boys’ golfer, Tyler Stachkunas on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Dan McLellan said, "Tyler’s leadership and passion for the game has been a welcome addition to this year’s Oxbridge golf team. He currently leads the team with a nine-hole scoring average of 37 as the ThunderWolves are off to a 4-0 start. In the team’s win over Cardinal Newman, Tyler made six birdies en route to being the match medalist. Tyler’s relentless work ethic will help him become an outstanding player."
Congratulations to girls’ golfer, Zoey Robinson on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Carla Overhiser said, "Zoey Robinson is a great leader and example of a hard-working student-athlete. It has been a pleasure to watch her game progress throughout the first half of the season. Zoey's determination and focus led to a personal best +1 (37) in a match this season. Zoey's discipline and positive attitude will continue to be a positive impact on the team."
Congratulations to boys’ cross country runner, John Schumacher on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Bayardo Sinclair said, "John exemplifies the Oxbridge guiding principles of: discipline, perseverance, confidence and respect. He is a pleasure to coach and continuously motivates his teammates to work harder. John always give 100 percent, regardless of the intensity or difficulty of the session. What I appreciate the most about John is the firm handshake I receive at the beginning and ending of every practice, thanking me for being his coach."
Congratulations to girls’ swimmer, Jennifer Secrest on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Paul Rave said, "As a nationally-ranked swimmer, Jen brings a level of leadership, experience, and talent to the team that is unparalleled. She is always ready to cheer on her teammates and pays special attention to encouraging new swimmers. She is gracious in her victories over opponents, demonstrating a level of sportsmanship that embodies the culture of kindness."
Congratulations to boys’ golfer, Henry Horgan on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Dan McLellan said, "As a Senior, Henry has been a role model for the younger players on the team through his work ethic and determination. Henry has been the medalist in four matches including a match against Cardinal Newman carding a season low 71 (-1 score) at The Bear’s Club. Great work Henry!"
Congratulations to girls’ volleyball player, Kaylon Smith on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Katie George said, “Kaylon has energized our team, earning us points both offensively and defensively! She is leading the team in blocks and has been a key contributor in our wins in this final week of our regular season! We will look to Kaylon in key situations as we enter playoffs! ”
Congratulations to girls’ cross country runner, Hailey Smallwood on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Bayardo Sinclair said, "Hailey led the girls’ team this season with relentless drive and commitment. She set a goal to run sub 22 minutes and completely shattered it by decreasing her previous PR of 22:54 to 21:48. What I admire most is her ability to maintain the same drive in every aspect of her life. She has clearly defined goals and refuses to fall short."
Congratulations to cheerleader, Ashley D'Andrea on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Melissa Swift said, “Ashley is a Senior Varsity Cheerleader that leads by example, encourages her team and strives for excellence. Her enthusiasm shines and her Oxbridge spirit is contagious! We’re so proud to have her as our Captain!”
Congratulations to girls' golfer, Maisie Filler on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Carla Overhiser said, "Maisie’s performance this season was beyond stellar. She had a scoring average of 33.7, a win at The Honda Classic HS Championship and a T-2nd at the State Championship to finish off the season. Her work ethic, discipline, and determination attributed to her success and consistency all season long. Congratulations on an outstanding season Maisie! We are proud of all your accomplishments this season!"
Congratulations to boys' basketball player, Klein Alexandre on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Brandon Strassburger said, "Klein is one of the hardest working student-athletes to ever play basketball at Oxbridge Academy. I admire Klein for his ability to lead by example and that he is often there for our underclassmen. Klein recently set a new career-high in points scored and will play a huge role on our team this year."
Congratulations to girls' soccer player, Henriete Purina on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Steve Obringer said, "Henriete is the true embodiment of the term student-athlete. She leads by example, and is as gifted in the classroom as she is in the net. Henriete’s work ethic is second to none. She never needs motivating, giving 100 percent every day, whether it’s during a training session or a match. Her skill, experience, and poise provide a solid foundation on which the team’s defense is built."
Congratulations to girls' basketball player, Haley Howarth on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Tracy Wolfe said, "Haley sets the standard for a student-athlete at Oxbridge Academy. She works just as hard in the classroom and in serving the community as she does on the basketball court. Haley leads by example, giving 100 percent every day, but also with her fun-loving personality and commitment to bringing the team together. She has a team-first mentality and is willing to do whatever it takes offensively and defensively to help the team succeed."
Congratulations to boys' soccer player, Exavier Banks on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Coach Gordon Woelper said, "Exavier is fun-loving and brings his relaxed attitude to practice each day. The team feeds off his free and easy approach to the game. He is a dynamic player and has been a major key to our success. In the 4-1 victory over District rival Cardinal Newman, Exavier struck for the hat trick with 2 goals, a penalty kick, and an assist."
Congratulations to boys' basketball player, Jason Simpson on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Brandon Strassburger said, "Jason Simpson embodies all that we value in our basketball program. He is a good basketball player, a better student and most importantly, he is a great person. As a sophomore, he is one of our team's leaders. He leads by example and his voice is often heard and respected by all of his teammates. "
Congratulations to girls' soccer player, Mackenzie Fazio on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Steve Obringer said, "Mackenzie is a special player, gifted with equal parts intelligence and athleticism. She is a relentless competitor and tireless worker on the soccer pitch. Mackenzie is a steadying presence in the midfield, dictating both possession and pace with her skill and athleticism. Her versatility allows her to fill an assortment of roles as needed. From shutdown defender to 1v1 scoring threat, Mackenzie truly is a complete player."
Congratulations to girls' basketball player, Natalie Zoller on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Tracy Wolfe said, "Natalie embodies all of the qualities that we value in our program: respect, discipline, hard work, and leadership. She has a team-first mentality and comes to practice ready to give her best day in and day out. In addition to her work on the court, Natalie excels in the classroom. As a member of the National Honor Society, she is also a leader amongst the entire student-body at Oxbridge. Natalie’s character and work ethic have helped her to become not only an excellent basketball player but also a perfect role model."
Congratulations to boys' tennis player, Michael Hines on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Allan Van Nostrand said, "Michael Hines is the type of student-athlete any high school would be proud to have. He excels in the classroom and gives his all on the tennis court. Michael is always looking to improve and willing to work hard to achieve results. He is the team’s most improved player and a great example of what kind of success can come from hard work and discipline."
Congratulations to girls' lacrosse player, Lucy Ream on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Megan Callaghan said, "We are lucky to have Lucy as a senior captain on the girls’ lacrosse team. Lucy works extremely hard at every practice and in each game. She is always looking to not only better herself but better her teammates. Her kind spirit makes her approachable as a leader and a great athlete to coach."
Congratulations to girls' basketball player, Aaliyah Stanley on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Tracy Wolfe said, "Aaliyah is one of the hardest working student-athletes I have coached. Aaliyah's work ethic not only makes her a better player but it pushes her teammates and coaches to constantly improve. In Aaliyah’s four years at Oxbridge, she has matured into an incredible leader. That leadership showed in our state championship game where she scored 32 points to help lead our team to back to back state championships."
Congratulations to boys' lacrosse player, Jack Kilian on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Stan Ross said, "Jack is the heart and soul of our team. He is an old school midfielder that does everything for our team. He is not only a great player but is tremendous leader both on and off the field."
Congratulations to girls' tennis player, Erin Yavinsky on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Fabienne Combe said, "Erin has been a part of our girls’ varsity tennis team for the past 4 years. She has been a reliable and consistent player that always shows great team spirit and sportsmanship. When she is on the court, she never gives up and always gives her best. Thank you, Erin, for being such an inspiring young lady."
Congratulations to baseball player, Drew Beno on being named the Student-Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Chad Mills said, "Drew represents all of the qualities a coach looks for in a student-athlete at Oxbridge. Drew is a high character young man with tremendous work ethic and high academic standards. I wish him the best of luck at the University of Richmond!"
