Eleven Oxbridge students participated in the annual Florida Association of Mu Alpha Theta (FAMAT) State Convention held on April 17 and 18 in Orlando and competed in various math-related contests. 

The team as a whole won the first place blue ribbon for amassing the most total points out of the 31 "small schools" participating. "The BIGGEST surprise," says Jhamilet Hawkins, Oxbridge math teacher and Mu Alpha Theta chapter advisor, "was that the group won first place -- the Blue Ribbon Award -- for smaller-sized schools. It’s only awarded to the top three performing smaller-sized schools." (A total of 41 schools and 900 students attended the convention.) 

Congratulations to sophomore Eric Long who earned the following awards: 

• Topic Test Round 2: BC Calculus - third place 🥉 
• Speed Math - sixth place 
• Individual - eighth place 
• Topic Test Round 1: Gemini - 12th place (with junior Noah Haspel). 
• Ciphering - 13th place

Junior Grace Vining also earned a fifth place award in the Community Service Presentation category.
